Amegilla epaphrodita

From Tilcayo Cats, the lean encyclopaedia by Tilcayo Knowledge Systems

Amegilla epaphrodita is an Australian bee with a striking change from dark to pale hair towards the end of its abdomen. Females have black hair on the first three upper abdominal plates and white hair on the remainder; in males, the black area extends across the first four plates.[1]

Specimens and distribution evidence

Brooks described the species in 1988 from a female collected east of Mount Cahill in the Northern Territory. A 2020 revision added the first male description and examined two males and five females.[1]

The revisers questioned the locality labels of two males from Split Rock, Queensland, because that site lay outside the distribution understood from the other material. The Queensland labels should therefore not be treated as secure range evidence. The revision listed no flower records for the species.[1]
