Eira barbara biologiae
Appearance
Eira barbara biologiae is a name used for a subspecies of the tayra, a member of the weasel family. Its name originated with Oldfield Thomas in 1900, in the combination Galictis barbara biologiae. The nomenclatural record associates its type locality with Calovevora, in Veraguas, Panama.[1]
The name appears in the Mammal Diversity Database’s 2026 subspecies list. The tayra account explains the competing classifications; a skull study challenged the traditional boundaries.[2]
