Eira barbara sinuensis
Appearance
Eira barbara sinuensis is a name used for a subspecies of the tayra, a member of the weasel family. Its name originated with Alexander von Humboldt in 1812, in the combination Mustela sinuensis. The nomenclatural record associates its type locality with the Cartagena–Sinú region of Colombia.[1]
The name appears in the Mammal Diversity Database’s 2026 subspecies list. The tayra account explains the competing classifications; a skull study challenged the traditional boundaries.[2]
