Fasting

From Tilcayo Cats, the lean encyclopaedia by Tilcayo Knowledge Systems

Fasting is going without some or all food for a period, usually for religious reasons such as penitence, preparation or devotion.

Tilcayo Cats' library sources on fasting are limited so far. The historian Susan Ashbrook Harvey notes that the fourth-century Syriac poet Ephrem the Syrian paired fasting with prayer and incense, praising a bishop of Nisibis for all three. Ephrem also wrote that the "fragrance of life" rises from the ashes and sackcloth of the Lenten fast, linking fasting with the imagery of incense and sacrifice.[1][2]
