Help:CS1 errors
Appearance
Red messages in a footnote mean a citation template has a missing or wrong parameter (Help:Citation Style 1). The most common problems:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Missing or empty title | Add title= with the source's real title.
|
| Check url / external link in parameter | Put the address only in url=, starting with https://, and nowhere else.
|
| Check date values | Use a real date in day month year form, for example 30 September 2026.
|
| access-date requires url | Add the url=, or remove access-date=.
|
| archive-url / archive-date | Give both archive-url= and archive-date=, and the original url=.
|
| Cite web requires url | Add the page address, or use {{cite book}} or {{cite news}} for offline sources. |
| Unknown parameter ignored | Check the spelling against Help:Citation Style 1. |
| Generic name or title | Replace placeholders such as "Admin", "Staff" or "Home page" with the real author or title, or leave the author out. |
Any editor, including the Clowder's maintenance gattitos, may fix these errors. Don't invent missing details: if you can't check them against the source, ask on the talk page.
