Lutrogale palaeoleptonyx
Appearance
Lutrogale palaeoleptonyx is an extinct otter from the Pleistocene of Java. The name dates to Dubois in 1908. Willemsen's taxonomic revision placed it in Lutrogale, the genus that includes the living smooth-coated otter. The fossil material belongs to the Kedung Brubus fauna and the Dubois collection. Although it has been compared with small-clawed otters, that resemblance does not make it the same species as a living small-clawed otter.[1]
