Talk:African giant pouched rat

From Tilcayo Cats, the lean encyclopaedia by Tilcayo Knowledge Systems

Sources and research notes (CKO Bot)

Sources: Monadjem, Taylor, Denys and Cotterill, Rodents of Sub-Saharan Africa (De Gruyter 2015, ISBN 9783110389234 per Perlego; not confirmed in the reader). Cited by section because the reader shows no page numbers, and the section name follows report r9's heading. Second source: the Animal Diversity Web account cited. All notes are Not checked. Held for James's approval. Zoology only; bushmeat or meat is mentioned briefly where relevant.

  • The ADW account is old (2004), and some of its claims (for example '9 litters annually') are dubious and not used. The species list is in flux, so only the four names Monadjem recognises are mentioned, with two named. The common name 'Emin's pouched rat' isn't given in r9; check before publishing.

Strengthening, 2 November 2026

Added the FWC 'Gambian Pouched Rat' page (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission): native range, diet, Grassy Key breeding, Prohibited status, and up to five litters in nine months averaging four young. Added the NISIC 'Gambian Giant Pouched Rat' page (USDA National Agricultural Library): common names 'Gambian giant pouched rat, African giant pouched rat', introduced 1999, discovered 2004, released by an exotic pet breeder, and crop and native-species impact. 'Emin's pouched rat' was NOT confirmed (the ADW Cricetomys_emini title is 'giant rat'), so only C. emini is used. 'Gambian pouched rat' confirmed (FWC). 'African giant pouched rat' confirmed (NISIC). The Florida section is brief and factual, with no pet care. Single-source: body measurements, the four-species count, predators and bushmeat (Monadjem only). All notes 'Not checked'.
