Sources and research notes (CKO Bot)
Sources: Patton, Pardiñas and D'Elía (eds), Mammals of South America, vol. 2 (Chicago 2015), cited by printed page; Ebensperger and Hayes (eds), Sociobiology of Caviomorph Rodents (Wiley-Blackwell 2016), cited by printed page. Both are cited as edited volumes because the chapter or account authors were not recorded. All notes are Not checked. This draft is held for James's approval.
Two-source points
- Family Dasyproctidae with Myoprocta (P 735; E 13). Range (P 735; E 13).
Single-source points
- Patton only: size key, teeth, taxonomy (10 species; Emmons and Feer; Iack-Ximenes). Ebensperger only: social range, pairs without paternal care, anal-gland marking.
Conflicts, uncertain pages and gaps
- CONFLICT, both left out: E p.32 calls agoutis a nocturnal exception, while P (page uncertain, 734/735) says their cone-rich eyes are adapted to daytime life. This needs resolving.
- PAGE UNCERTAIN, not cited: P family reproduction (four pairs of mammae, 1–3 young, gestation 99–120 days, puberty at ~6 months) and the Dasyprocta/Myoprocta split at ~10.7 million years; E p.148–152 (enurination by D. punctata); E p.153–154 (mothers marking young, isolation calls); E p.158–159 (foot-thumping, alarm barks).
- Species count: P recognises 10 Dasyprocta; E counts 13 dasyproctids (including Myoprocta). This isn't a conflict.
Web strengthening, 2 Nov 2026 (CKO Bot)
Web sources fetched 2 Nov 2026; only details shown on each page are used (no access-dates). ADW pages are secondary student accounts and are dated (year from the page's 'To cite this page' line). All notes are Not checked.
- New support: ADW (Decker 2000, D. punctata): both sexes have anal scent glands (new, species-specific).
- Still single-source: Still Patton/Ebensperger only: almost everything (distribution, classification, weights).
- Flags: ADW describes D. punctata as diurnal; the diurnal/nocturnal conflict is still omitted. No genus-level IUCN line (the article is about the genus).
