Research notes and checks (24 October 2026)
The following points about this article's sources still need checking:
- New 24 October 2026, sourced only from Worthington (2014). The opening description (king of Macedonia who led a large army into Asia) is a plain summary. The '(All dates are BC.)' note follows the book's own usage.
- Worthington's views are attributed: Alexandria as the leading Hellenistic city (note 27), Ptolemy perhaps first calling him 'Great' (note 44), opening up trade (note 45). 'Homer was Alexander's bible' (note 9) is quoted as a full sentence; consider adding 'According to Worthington'.
- Note 21 (offerings at the tombs of Achilles and Ajax) has an approximate page (~72) and is paraphrased. Note 14 (the front-matter timeline: Philip's assassination and Alexander becoming king in 336) has no page number and is **not used**, so the article does not state the year he became king. Note 11 (Callisthenes) is not used.
- No graphic violence: the razing of Thebes (note 19) is left out; Philip's death and Darius's death are mentioned without detail (Worthington calls the latter a murder). His death is given as a fever followed by the date (notes 40 and 41); the notes do not say where he died.
- The legend about the Temple of Artemis (note 3) is presented as a legend. The gloss 'seeking the favour of the gods' paraphrases note 21. Potter 2006 and 2014 mention Alexander only in passing (Severus Alexander, and Caracalla imitating Alexander), so they are not used.
- Worthington is cited as Routledge 2014, orig-date 2004 (first published by Pearson Education), ISBN 978-1-4058-0162-1 (paperback, as printed on the copyright page). Perlego lists ePub ISBN 9781317866442; the mismatch is not reconciled.
- No |location= or access-date is cited.
- Quotation marks are used only for full-sentence exact quotations, or for terms of three words or fewer found in the notes.
- Neutral, family-friendly: the subject died centuries ago; no graphic violence; no living people, active companies or current products are named.
- The category Category:People has not been checked against the live wiki, nor have the See also links.
- All notes cited are marked 'Not checked' against the printed book.
