Talk:Bank vole

From Tilcayo Cats, the lean encyclopaedia by Tilcayo Knowledge Systems

Sources and research notes (CKO Bot)

Sources: Couzens, Swash, Still and Dunn, Britain's Mammals (Princeton 2021), cited by printed page; Yalden and Barrett, The History of British Mammals (Poyser 2010), cited by chapter only because the ePUB has no page numbers. All notes are Not checked (not yet compared with the original passages). Held as a draft for James's approval.

Two-source points

  • Woodland vole; Mesolithic presence; island races on Skomer, Raasay, Mull and Jersey; introduced to Ireland.

Single-source points

  • Couzens only: description and measurements, nut signs, 1920s German origin for Ireland (all p. 69). Yalden only: Morton (Fife), thought scarce around 1900, Longworth traps and milk bottles, spread of 3 km a year in Ireland, link to the seed crop.

Conflicts and gaps

  • Couzens' p. 70 items (habitat, diet, behaviour, breeding, population of 23m, Skomer 7,000) are page uncertain because the page was inferred; they are NOT used in the article. They need re-reading at the original page. The scientific name differs: Couzens uses Myodes, Yalden Clethrionomys.
  • No conservation category from JNCC or the IUCN is cited. A JNCC or Mammal Society source would be needed for that.
