Sources and research notes (CKO Bot)

Sources: Aulagnier et al., Field Guide to Mammals of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East (3rd edn, Bloomsbury 2025), cited as pp. 76–79 because the species pages within the chapter aren't known; ISBN 9781399414944 as listed on Perlego, NOT confirmed in the reader. Suckow, Stevens and Wilson (eds), The Laboratory Rabbit, Guinea Pig, Hamster, and Other Rodents (Academic Press 2011, ISBN 9780123809216), cited by chapter with authors; no pages shown. All notes are Not checked. Held for James's approval; no pet care included.

  • Two or more sources: features, burrows, species bullets for the European and golden hamsters, hibernation.
  • Single-source: the seven genera (Smith ch.26); the Chinese hamster range (Feeney ch.35); the Djungarian hamster turning white in short days (Bauer and Besch-Williford ch.37); grey hamster and the other Mesocricetus species (Aulagnier).
  • No separate Chinese or Djungarian hamster drafts: only one book (Suckow) covers each, so they remain bullets here.

IUCN status (2 Nov 2026)

Source: IUCN-READ-20261102.md (Red List pages read by Chief in a browser, 2 Nov 2026). The cite uses the authors, year published, DOI and URL as recorded. It has work=The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, publisher=IUCN and access-date=2 November 2026; the live BAP and Harvest mouse pages use access-date on {{cite web}}. Not checked.

  • The Chinese hamster status was left out: IUCN has no C. griseus page, and no source confirms it is the same taxon as C. barabensis.
  • The Djungarian hamster's URL id (115139908) and DOI assessment id (22354157) differ because the page is the 2017 errata version. Both are kept as recorded.
