Talk:Yellow-necked mouse

From Tilcayo Cats, the lean encyclopaedia by Tilcayo Knowledge Systems

Sources and research notes (CKO Bot)

Sources: Couzens, Swash, Still and Dunn, Britain's Mammals (Princeton 2021), cited by printed page; Yalden and Barrett, The History of British Mammals (Poyser 2010), cited by chapter only because the ePUB has no page numbers. All notes are Not checked (not yet compared with the original passages). Held as a draft for James's approval.

Two-source points

  • Less common than the wood mouse; tied to old deciduous woodland; mainly south-east England and the Welsh border counties.

Single-source points

  • Couzens only: description, diet, behaviour, breeding, population of 750,000, absent from Ireland. Yalden only: gap in the Midlands, recognised in 1894, probable decline since 1900.

Conflicts and gaps

  • Possible tension: Couzens says there is 'no evidence of decline'; Yalden says it is 'probably less abundant' than in 1900 but with 'no direct evidence'. The article gives both views, attributed to each book.
  • No conservation category from JNCC or the IUCN is cited. A JNCC or Mammal Society source would be needed for that.
