Tilcayo Cats:Administrators
| This page in a nutshell: Administrators are trusted editors with extra tools: deleting, protecting, blocking and hiding revisions. They use them only to enforce policy, explain every action and can lose the tools for misuse. There is no request-for-adminship election. |
Who they are
The current administrators are listed automatically. The operator of Tilcayo Cats is the only bureaucrat. The Elder of the Clowder, Ziggy, is an administrator and CheckUser. Other groups are listed at Special:ListGroupRights.
Appointment and removal
There is no request-for-adminship election. The operator appoints administrators after a discussion at the administrators' noticeboard of at least seven days. Tools are removed by the operator after a similar discussion, or at once in an emergency (for example, an account that seems to be compromised). A bot account is never made an administrator; the Elder's account is the one exception, and its admin actions follow the bot policy.
What administrators do
- delete pages under the deletion policy and close deletion discussions
- protect pages and block editors, as below
- hide revisions that contain copyright infringement, serious BLP problems or private information
- respond at the administrators' noticeboard, the incidents noticeboard, vandalism reports and protection requests
Administrators explain every action in the log summary, answer questions about it, and do not use the tools in disputes they are part of, or on topics where they have a conflict of interest or have done paid work.
Blocking
Blocks protect the encyclopaedia; they are not punishment.
- Reasons: vandalism, repeated breaches of TC:BLP, TC:CIVIL or edit warring, undisclosed paid editing, abuse of multiple accounts, legal threats, unacceptable usernames, and bots that break TC:BOT.
- Length: as short as will stop the problem. First blocks for ordinary disruption are usually 24 hours to a week. Indefinite blocks are for vandalism-only accounts, sockpuppets, legal threats and bots that cannot be stopped another way.
- Warnings: give at least one warning first, except for vandalism-only accounts, sockpuppets, legal threats and serious BLP problems.
- Appeals: a blocked editor can appeal on their own talk page. Another administrator reviews the appeal.
- Multiple accounts: suspected sockpuppets are reported at Sockpuppet investigations. CheckUser is used only there, and its results name accounts, never personal data.
Protection
- Semi-protection (only established accounts can edit) for persistent vandalism or BLP problems.
- Full protection (administrators only) for edit wars, for a short time, and permanently for policies and the interface.
- Create protection for titles that keep being recreated after deletion.
Ask at Requests for page protection. Protection is removed when it is no longer needed.
