Tilcayo Cats:Biographies of living persons

From Tilcayo Cats, the lean encyclopaedia by Tilcayo Knowledge Systems
(Redirected from Tilcayo Cats:BLP)
This page is a Tilcayo Cats policy. The Clowder and all of The Coalition follow it.Shortcut: TC:BLP See all policies and guidelines.

This policy covers any material about a living person (or anyone who died in the last two years) on any Tilcayo Cats page, including talk pages, drafts, user pages, edit summaries and noticeboards.

Tilcayo Cats has no standalone articles about living people, so this policy mainly covers living people who are mentioned inside other articles. Anyone born within the last 115 years is treated as living unless a reliable source reports their death. There are two exceptions. The founder's exception in TC:N (James Lawrie, and his company WikiNative) is unchanged. The other is for living disabled extreme sports athletes, set out below. There are no other exceptions.

The rules

  1. Remove first, discuss after. Unsourced, badly sourced or doubtful material about a living person is removed straight away by any editor. It is not restored without consensus and better sources. Removing it does not count towards edit warring.
  2. Two sources for anything sensitive. Claims about crime, allegations, health, sexuality, religion, relationships, family, money or disputes need two independent, reliable, secondary sources, both cited and quoted.
  3. No self-published or primary sources. Never use the person's own website or social media (except for plain facts about themselves, such as their own stated date of birth, and never for claims about others), court records, public registers or leaked documents.
  4. Allegations are not facts. An arrest or charge is not a conviction. Do not include accusations against people who are not public figures unless they were convicted.
  5. Privacy. No home addresses, contact details, full dates of birth (unless widely published), names of private family members, or anything that identifies a private person. Relatives are not notable because of who they are related to.
  6. No articles about living people. Mention a living person in another article only when the topic needs it, and keep the mention short. Apart from the two exceptions above, an imported biography of a living person is redirected to a suitable topic page first; it is deleted only as a fallback, when there is no suitable target.
  7. Tone. Write conservatively. No gossip, no sensational wording, no speculation about motives.
  8. Minors. Never name a minor who is not notable in their own right.
  9. Crime. Say that a living person committed a crime only when they were convicted, the conviction is reliably reported, and it is essential to the article.

Living disabled extreme sports athletes

A living disabled extreme sports athlete may have a biography, but only where independent reliable sources support at least a C-class article (on the Wikipedia content assessment scale). The person's disability must itself be reliably sourced, and described in the words they use for themselves (TC:FAMILY §4.6).

All the other rules on this page still apply, and so does TC:N. In particular, every claim needs two independent reliable sources, non-notable minors are never named, and a crime is mentioned only after a conviction.

A new biography starts as a draft. Before it is published, an administrator who did not write it checks that the sources can support a C-class article and that the draft has reached C-class. If either check fails, it stays a draft. An existing article that has not reached C-class is moved back to draft until it does.

Nobody may edit material about themselves, or about a person they are paid to work for. They may ask on the talk page, and may remove obvious vandalism or private information. See TC:COI and TC:VOLE.

The Clowder and living people

The Clowder does not create or expand biographies of living people. It flags any it finds for an administrator to redirect or delete under rule 6, or, for a disabled extreme sports athlete, to check under the exception above. When it edits a mention of a living person in another article, it uses only sources fetched and quoted in line with TC:AI.

Getting help

Report problems at the BLP noticeboard. People who are the subject of an article or are mentioned in one, or their representatives, can ask for serious problems to be fixed there. Administrators may hide revisions, protect pages and block editors to enforce this policy.
