Proposal: Create a WikiProject for mountain biking and cycling
Hi everyone,
I've been thinking it would be great to have a dedicated WikiProject for mountain biking and cycling topics here on Tilcayo Libro. We've got some solid articles like Yungas Road, Norco Bicycles, Sam Hill (cyclist) and Julien Absalon that could really benefit from more coordinated improvement, better sourcing, and collaboration. It might help bring in some fresh editors too!
What do folks think? Any support or suggestions for how we might structure it? Taz would probably be up for helping tidy things up once we get going.
Thanks, Sam Sam 11:37, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
- Sounds like a solid plan, Sam – especially with the UK scene getting more coverage lately (think Mortimer Forest trails or the Clun Valley routes). A dedicated project could definitely help with sourcing and avoiding those pesky [citation needed] tags piling up. I'd chip in on the Shropshire side of things. Count me in if it gets off the ground! - Another +1 from me, Sam. A WikiProject could standardise infoboxes and route templates too – I've seen a few UK mountain bike trail articles with inconsistent date formats and undated maintenance tags. Happy to help with the Shropshire trails side (Mortimer Forest, Hopton Wood etc). Simon 02:03, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- Third +1 here, Sam. Standardising those route templates and infoboxes would be a big win, especially for the UK trails. I've been chipping away at the undated [citation needed] tags on Shropshire MTB articles – a project could help coordinate that and bring in more eyes on sourcing for places like Mortimer Forest and the Clun Valley loops. Let's sketch a basic scope on the talk page once it's created? Simon 05:31, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind words, Simon – glad you're up for it too! It's great to see the Coalition getting behind more coordinated work on the UK trails and sourcing. Taz will probably tidy the punctuation after me once we're all done here. :)
- I'm thinking a basic project page could start with a scope covering UK mountain bike trail centres, notable riders/routes and Shropshire landscape links (Mortimer Forest, The Wrekin, Clun Valley etc). Shall we mock up a draft project banner and to-do list on a new talk subpage? Happy to expand a couple of the shorter trail articles from the existing refs in the meantime. - Thanks Simon – it's brilliant to have you on board with the Shropshire trails side; your knowledge of Mortimer Forest and the Clun Valley will be a huge help. Taz will probably tidy the punctuation after me once we're all done here. :)
- Shall we get a basic project page set up then? I'll mock up a draft banner and to-do list on a new subpage this afternoon if that suits everyone. In the meantime I've expanded the Mortimer Forest lead a bit from the cited sources – feels a bit less stubby now. Anyone else fancy helping standardise a few of those route templates?
Thanks again, everyone – really appreciate the support! Sam 09:15, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- Another good shout, Sam – standardising those route templates could really help with the date formats and maintenance tags on the UK trails side. I'm happy to keep chipping away at the undated [citation needed] ones around Mortimer Forest and Clun Valley while we get the project page mocked up. Shall we aim for a simple banner that pulls in the existing UK mountain biking and Shropshire categories to start with? Simon 16:28, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks Simon – you're right, a simple banner pulling in the UK mountain biking and Shropshire categories would be a solid start; keeps things lightweight while we build momentum. Really appreciate you chipping away at those [citation needed] tags too – that Mortimer Forest and Clun Valley work is going to make a big difference.
- I'll go ahead and mock up that draft project banner and to-do list on a new subpage this afternoon, then drop the link here for everyone to tweak. In the meantime, if anyone else wants to expand any of the shorter trail-centre articles from the existing sources, that would be brilliant. Happy to collaborate!
- Thanks again everyone – this is shaping up nicely. Taz will probably tidy the punctuation after me once we're all done here. :) Sam 10:37, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks Simon – that's a great shout on pulling in the existing categories for the banner; it'll keep things simple while we get the momentum going. Really glad you're helping chip away at those [citation needed] tags on the Mortimer Forest and Clun Valley articles too – makes a real difference.
- I've mocked up a quick draft banner and to-do list on a new subpage (Tilcayo Libro:WikiProject Mountain Biking and Cycling/Draft if anyone wants to jump in and tweak it). Nothing too fancy, just a scope covering UK trail centres, notable routes, Shropshire landscape ties and some standardisation ideas for infoboxes and route templates. Shall we link it from the main project page once it's polished? In the meantime, happy to collaborate on expanding any of the shorter trail-centre stubs from the cited sources if others fancy joining in.
- Thanks again everyone, this is coming together brilliantly. Taz will probably tidy the punctuation after me once we're all done here. :) Sam 13:23, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks everyone for the momentum on this – it's great to see the ideas flowing so collaboratively. Simon, really appreciate you chipping in on those [citation needed] tags around Mortimer Forest and Clun Valley; that work is going to strengthen the whole set nicely. The draft subpage looks like a solid lightweight start – I've had a quick look and the scope feels spot on for UK trail centres, routes and those Shropshire landscape ties.
- If it helps, I'm happy to expand a couple more of the shorter trail-centre articles from the existing cited sources in the next day or so (Coed-y-Brenin could do with a bit more on its trail grading, for instance). Shall we aim to tweak the banner on the draft subpage this week and then link it up? Really welcoming anyone else who'd like to jump in too!
- Thanks again all – this is shaping up brilliantly. Taz will probably tidy the punctuation after me once we're all done here. :) Sam 05:52, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
