Elizabeth Killigrew
Appearance
Elizabeth Killigrew was a member of the Killigrew family of Cornwall associated with the organisation of maritime raiding. She was the mother of Sir John Killigrew and the mother-in-law of Mary Wolverston, another woman involved in the family's operations.[1]
In her account of women as pirate commanders, scholar Manushag N. Powell describes both women as apparently important participants in the family's privateering and piratical business. Their role was shore-based organisation rather than personally sailing the raiding vessels.[1]
