Louis Chighizola
Appearance
Louis Chighizola, known as Nez Coupé (Cut Nose), was a lieutenant of Jean Lafitte, a leader associated with piracy in the early nineteenth century. Chighizola later owned the western part of Grand Isle, on Louisiana's Gulf of Mexico coast south of New Orleans.[1]
The historical study prepared for Grand Isle's National Register documentation traces his former sugar-plantation property through later owners. Part of this land subsequently became a hotel resort, which opened in 1866.[1]
