Tilcayo Cats:Manual of Style

From Tilcayo Cats, the lean encyclopaedia by Tilcayo Knowledge Systems
This page is a Tilcayo Cats guideline. The Clowder and all of The Coalition follow it unless there is a good, stated reason not to.Shortcut: TC:MOS See all policies and guidelines.

This is the Tilcayo Cats house style. It replaces Wikipedia's Manual of Style and its subpages. Where it says nothing, follow the existing style of the article.

Language

  • British English spelling and usage (colour, organisation, encyclopaedia, programme, tyre, kerb). Keep established spellings in names and quotations.
  • Plain words. Short sentences, active voice, no jargon without explanation. No promotional language (see TC:NPOV).
  • Dates: 30 September 2026 (day month year). No ordinals ("30th").
  • Numbers: words for one to nine, figures for 10 and above. Metric units first, with imperial in brackets where helpful; miles and yards for UK roads and distances.
  • Quotation marks: double quotation marks, with punctuation outside unless it belongs to the quotation.
  • People: full name at first mention, surname after that. No honorifics (Mr, Dr, Sir) in running text.

Layout

  • A short lead that says what the subject is and why it is notable, with no citations needed for claims cited in the body.
  • Headings in sentence case (only the first word and proper nouns capitalised).
  • Standard closing sections, in order: See also, References, External links (one link: the subject's official site, if it has one; it is not a source).
  • Lean by design: no trivia sections, no galleries, no long lists of awards, clients or staff, no "In popular culture" unless sourced and significant.
  • No images or media (see TC:COPY).

Citations

Use <ref> footnotes with the citation templates ({{cite web}}, {{cite news}}, {{cite book}}, {{cite journal}}), including quote= as TC:V requires. See Help:Footnotes and Help:Citation Style 1.
