Template:Uw-coi

Information icon Hello, Uw-coi. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. We ask that you:

Avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors
Disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI)
Propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the Edit Request Wizard), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions
Avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming)

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation for any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

See the FAQ for article subjects for more information.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.

Any breaking changes to this template, including moving it or nominating it for deletion, must be communicated in advance to Twinkle's users and maintainers at Wikipedia talk:Twinkle. The standard installation of Twinkle relies on this template.

This template displays an extended legal warning. When this is not appropriate, consider using {{subst:Uw-coi-brief}} instead.

Usage

{{subst:Uw-coi}}
{{subst:Uw-coi|Article}} references a specific article
{{subst:Uw-coi|Article|Additional text}} adds text onto the end of the message instead of "Thank you"
{{subst:Uw-coi||Additional text}} or {{subst:Uw-coi|2=Additional text}} also adds text onto the end of the message instead of "Thank you", but doesn't link a page as specified by the article.

Please remember to substitute the template using {{subst:Uw-coi}} rather than {{Uw-coi}}.

To customize your message, parameters are available; one to add the article name, and one to add additional text at the end of the message. If your param value contains an equal sign (as urls often do), then be sure to explicitly specify the positional parameter by number; i.e., use |1= or |2= followed by the value; e.g., |1=XYZ=Repainting, or |2=https://www.bbc.com/search?q=Kent+weather.
