Template:Uw-coi-ask-reply
- Thanks for your reply. Because of your connection to the article topic, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). This may unduly influence your edits on this topic, even if unintentionally. We ask that you:
- Avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors
- Disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI)
- Propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the Edit Request Wizard), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions
- Avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming)
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation for any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
See the FAQ for article subjects for more information.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. ~~~~| File:Information icon4.svg | This template should always be substituted – use {{subst:Uw-coi-ask-reply}}. Any accidental transclusions will be automatically substituted by a bot. |
This template may be used to provide the standard COI explanation to a user who answered "yes" to a previous brief question directed to them about a possible connection to an article they edited. The message content is excerpted from {{uw-coi}} and reformatted as a reply to the user with two tab stops of indent. This is an autosign template; do not append "~~~~".
Parameters
|1=– article title (optional; default:the article)|2=– additional text (optional; default:Thank you.)|tabs=– number of tab stops to indent the message (optional; default:2)
Usage
{{subst:Uw-coi-ask-reply}}{{subst:Uw-coi-ask-reply|Article}}references a specific article{{subst:Uw-coi-ask-reply|Article|Additional text}}adds text onto the end of the message instead of "Thank you"{{subst:Uw-coi-ask-reply||Additional text}}or{{subst:Uw-coi-ask-reply|2=Additional text}}also adds text onto the end of the message instead of "Thank you", but doesn't link a page as specified by the article.{{subst:Uw-coi-ask-reply|Article|tabs=4}}– if you need to indent your reply, say, 4 tab stops (::::) instead of the default '2'
Please remember to substitute the template using {{subst:Uw-coi-ask-reply}} rather than {{Uw-coi-ask-reply}}.
To customize your message, parameters are available; one to add the article name, and one to add additional text at the end of the message. If your param value contains an equal sign (as urls often do), then be sure to explicitly specify the positional parameter by number; i.e., use |1= or |2= followed by the value; e.g., |1=XYZ=Repainting, or |2=https://www.bbc.com/search?q=Kent+weather.
