Template:Uw-cryptic-filename
Information icon Hello, I'm Example. I would like to let you know that a file you created or significantly contributed to wasn't properly named. Files that aren't properly named are hard to track and may make it hard for other editors to know about the context of the image. It is suggested that, the next time you upload a file, give it a clear and descriptive name. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the help desk. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you.
| File:Information icon4.svg | This template should always be substituted – use {{subst:Uw-cryptic-filename}}. Any accidental transclusions will be automatically substituted by a bot. |
Usage
{{subst:Uw-cryptic-filename}}{{subst:Uw-cryptic-filename|Article}}references a specific article{{subst:Uw-cryptic-filename|Article|Additional text}}adds text onto the end of the message instead of "Thank you"{{subst:Uw-cryptic-filename||Additional text}}or{{subst:Uw-cryptic-filename|2=Additional text}}also adds text onto the end of the message instead of "Thank you", but doesn't link a page as specified by the article.- This template is used to remind users to "name your images".
Please remember to substitute the template using {{subst:Uw-cryptic-filename}} rather than {{Uw-cryptic-filename}}.
To customize your message, parameters are available; one to add the article name, and one to add additional text at the end of the message. If your param value contains an equal sign (as urls often do), then be sure to explicitly specify the positional parameter by number; i.e., use |1= or |2= followed by the value; e.g., |1=XYZ=Repainting, or |2=https://www.bbc.com/search?q=Kent+weather.
